13 мая 2010 (четверг), 14:00 на Матмехе СПбГУ в ауд. 405 (4 этаж над главным входом) состоится выступление на тему:

EBI ArrayExpress Gene Expression Atlas

Dr. Misha Kapushesky
Gene Expression Atlas Team Leader
European Bioinformatics Institute, Cambridge, UK.

Приглашаются студенты 3-5 курсов, а также все заинтересованные.
Предварительных знаний биоинформатики не требуется, выступление будет на русском языке.

Краткое описание:

Misha will present the EBI ArrayExpress Gene Expression Atlas (http://www.ebi.ac.uk/gxa), a new database designed to enable scientists to search and compare gene expression data according to cell type, tissue and disease conditions, and their new ArrayExpress R Workbench, which uses cloud computing to provide a powerful interface to R and Bioconductor.

The Gene Expression Atlas collates data from over 1,200 independent studies, mainly microarray experiments, with more than 33,000 samples in total. Using the advanced search function, scientists can query gene information for various situations, including, but not limited to, specific organisms, cell lines, cell types, developmental stages, organs and disease states and stages. An online tutorial is available to help you get started.

This database is founded on data from the ArrayExpress -- a public archive of data from high-throughput functional genomic assays that is used by experts. However, in the Atlas database, the information is processed and presented in a way that makes it accessible to all biologists, from graduate students to experts alike. The Atlas represents a novel statistical meta-analysis method for gene expression data analysis, combining semantic data enrichment methodologies and classical effect-size based models.
